Latin name: Monstera deliciosa
If you want a true queen of potted plants in your collection, monstera deliciosa should be in it! Also known as the hole monstera, it impresses with its habit, size and exotic appearance. Don't let its tropical origin put you off. The Swiss Cheese Plant is a plant that even beginner houseplant growers can handle.
Among the many qualities of the Swiss Cheese Plant, its unusual and spectacular appearance comes to the fore. The biggest ornament of the deliciosa monstera is its very large and glossy leaves. Their diameter can reach up to 60 cm! On the surface of the leaves, deep indentations and multi-shaped holes appear over time. These are the origin of the term hole monstera.
As the name suggests, the monstera can grow to a monstrous size. At the same time, its growth is slow. It is a strongly creeping vine that can grow up to 20 metres in the wild, in the home it grows to a height of about 3 metres.
Swiss Cheese Plant Care
Monstera deliciosa is a plant that will repay you with a beautiful appearance with little effort. It will appreciate it if you place it in a bright, but not directly sunny position. Remember not to change its habitat - the monstera hollow monstera does not like to change its position. However, it tolerates temperature changes well and will tolerate frequent sprinkling. Monstera deliciosa prefers a permeable substrate.
Watering Monstera deliciosa moderately. Remove the dust that accumulates on the captivating leaves of the monstera with a damp cloth. Once the plant has developed a significant amount of roots, you should repot it. The hole monstera also needs proper fertilisation. From spring to autumn, it is therefore advisable to feed it with a fertiliser such as green plant fertiliser.
